On Tuesday, the Senate passed a legislative bill to "protect" same-sex marriage, as well as interracial marriage. The bill was named "Respect for Marriage Act".
The final vote was 61-36. All Democrats and twelve Republicans supported the bill. The House will now need to approve the bill for it to be sent to President Joe Biden to sign.
Chuck Schumer, a key figure for the bill, stated that today was a "Very good day" and an "Important day" for millions of Americans.
