Republican Representative Kevin McCarthy, fell short in a third vote to become U.S. Speaker as Republicans backed Jim Jordan of Ohio. 

As the 118th Congress convened on Tuesday, voters failed to produce a winner, resulting in a adjourning to Wednesday.
