The Pentagon confirmed Tuesday that a U.S. soldier has been detained by North Korea after allegedly crossing the demilitarized zone that separates the North Korea and South Korea.
The yet-to-be identified soldier had joined a tour in the joint security area when he apparently just dashed across the border, according to defense officials.
U.S. officials said that the tour escorts tried to catch the runaway soldier but it was too late.
It has been confirmed that the soldier is being held by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
