U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with President Xi of China and other top diplomats on Sunday-Monday hoping to ease U.S.-China tensions.
During the meeting at the Diaoyutai guest house, Xi said the world needed a "generally stable" China-U.S. relationship, according to a translation from Chinese Foreign Ministry.
During the visit, Blinken stated that the U.S. "does not support Taiwan independence", but added that the United States will "make sure Taiwan has the ability to defend itself", under the Taiwan Relations Act.
China assured the U.S., that they would not supply Russia with lethal aid which would be used in the war in Ukraine.
